Our mission
At the Caltech-Cambridge CSI Lab, our goal is to drive impactful climate action on a global scale through the innovative application of computational social sciences and responsible artificial intelligence (AI).
By combining the strengths of these fields, we aim to develop advanced analytical tools and models that can understand, predict, and influence human behavior and societal trends in relation to climate mitigation and adaptation.
Our approach involves several key objectives:
Data-driven insights: Utilizing large-scale data analysis to uncover patterns and insights about how societies interact with the environment, and how these interactions can be optimized for better climate outcomes.
Behavioral modeling: Creating sophisticated models that simulate human behavior in response to climate policies and interventions, allowing us to predict their effectiveness, counter misinformation and make data-informed recommendations.
Just policy design: Assisting policymakers by providing robust, evidence-based insights that can inform effective climate action, in turn, enabling climate justice.
Interdisciplinary collaboration: Collaborating with experts from various fields, including earth & environmental science, economics, political science, architecture and engineering, to co-create comprehensive solutions to grand challenges.
People-centric solutions: Ensuring we place public preferences and values at the core of climate action technology and strategy development, at the same time ensuring that they can be implemented effectively in diverse regions and contexts around the world.
Responsible AI practice: Ensuring that our use of AI is responsible, transparent, accountable and equitable, addressing ethical concerns and promoting fairness in the deployment of AI technologies for climate action.
